The Rhythm Roots Allstars

Birthed in November of 1999, The Rhythm Roots Allstars (formerly the Rhythm Room All-Stars) began as the house band for the Rhythm Room, a Sunday night dance club that remained a weekly ritual for years at the popular Temple Bar in Los Angeles. Combining elements of funk, latin, calypsoul, electro-brazillian, dancehall, afrobeat, dub, etc., this tight ten-plus piece ensemble ignites dance floors with it's unique blend of raw yet sophisticated dance music. Loaded with an arsenal of drums and percussion, a full horn section, guitars, bass, keys, steel pans, and vocals, as well as guest dj's, mc's, singers, and dancers, the Rhythm Roots Allstars create a huge, celebratory sound all their own, firmly rooted in the great groove music we all know and love, while still pushing into exciting new musical realms.

The collective features a semi-rotating cast of some of LA's finest musicians which has included such players as drummer/percussionists Alan Lightner, Davey Chegwidden, Ricky Rodriguez, Oliver Charles, Pete McNeal, Phillip "Fish" Fisher, Jeff Mince, and Chris Lovejoy, bassists Ethan Phillips, Dave Wilder, Pancho Tomaselli, and Kaveh Rastegar, guitarists Josh Lopez, Dan Ubick, and Woody Aplanalp, keyboardist Dan Hastie, horn players Geoff "Double G" Gallegos, Matt DeMerritt, Todd Simon, Jordan Katz, Mike Bolger, Shane Endsley, Ben Wendel, and Joel Bowers, vocalists Aloe Blacc, The Soul of John Black (John Bigham), and Fanny Franklin, dancer Dani Lunn, and the dj/production team Afrodesiac Soundsystem featuring djs Haul, Mason, and Jed.

Members of the group have performed/recorded with artists such as Breakestra, Macy Gray, Black Eyed Peas, Dakah Hip-Hop Orchestra, Connie Price & the Keystones, Orgone, Roy Ayers, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Nikka Costa, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, Quantic, Madlib's Sound Directions, War, Weapon of Choice, Too Short, Everlast, Outkast, India.Arie, Brand New Heavies, David Holmes, Antibalas, and Lily Tomlin to name just a few.

Recently, the Rhythm Roots Allstars have been gaining a reputation for their skills as a backing band, performing high energy concerts accross the country where they do their own set of music and then back up an artist for their set. Over the past couple years, the band has had the pleasure to perform with such artists as De La Soul, Barrington Levy, Rakim, Redman, Talib Kweli, Sharon Jones, Ghostface Killah, Big Daddy Kane, N'Dea Davenport, Steve Spacek, Dwele, Sy Smith, The Soul of John Black, Raheem DeVaughn, Kim Hill, Peven Everett, and others.

The band is currently putting the finishing touches on their debut full length album due for release in January 2008...
